WIAW: All about the bridesmaids

by Jemma Andrew-Adiamah (Celery and Cupcakes) on May 30, 2012

in EATS!, Operation Wedding

I just want to say a gynormous thank you for all of your lovely comment on My First Vlog!  It seems many of you seem to like my very British accent, ha!  I had never realised that it was so prominent until watching the vlog back.  I never really thought I sounded like that.  I will definitely be doing more vlogs in the future.

Peas and Crayons

Ahhh so it is that time of the week again!  I love WIAW as not only is it full of delicious food but it also marks the middle of the week and the weekend is that little bit closer.

For this weeks WIAW I want to rewind to Mondays goings on because it was a fabulous day!

I woke up bright and early and headed to the gym to do my usual upper body strength routine and 20 minutes of cardio on the bike and cross trainer.  I added some inner leg exercises to my routine too.

After getting ready I made a yummy breakfast of Sharpham Parks spelt berry puffs with a chopped pair, half a banana and raspberries topped with soy yoghurt and with a drop of hazelnut milk.

Alfie was working some locum shifts this weekend which meant that he couldn’t come home, but he had Monday off. We decided to make a day of it and go to Bicester Village to have a look for some wedding shoes for Alfie.

Since I was going out for the day and the sun was shining I thought I would make some sort of an effort…

IMG_2617

OOTD: vest top, H&M, dress, Mango, favourite wedges, Sole, bag, Mulberry.

It was getting some sun on my legs for a change! Open-mouthed smile

Alfred (I call him by his full name when I am mad at him!) was typically late for our 1pm meet at the train station so I decided to walk to Bicester Village and wait for him there.

IMG_2612

The anger soon subsided though when I got my hands on this superfood salad from Pret.  It was so good!

IMG_2614

I also grabbed my first Vanilla Frappachino from Starbucks as well.  Oh it as amazing!  I think I could make these a regular thing in this heat.  I loved it!

Alfie finally turned up, apparently he had some trouble with his connecting train as there was some delay- all was forgiven!  He assures me that he won’t be late on our wedding day!

We had a great time shopping and even found Alfie’s shoes.  They are proper men’s shoes if you know what I mean, hand made and will last for ever.  They do come with a price tag and Alfie was unsure about whether to get them there and then.

I actually felt quite emotional at this point as I have my dress for the wedding and some beautiful Jimmy Choos.  I know we will have our memories and pictures from the wedding but I also think it is nice to have something materialistic to remember the day by.  Alfie is hiring his suit and so won’t really have anything else, like I have my dress etc.   He treats everyone else but never himself.  So he definitely getting those shoes as he deserves them!

We also spotted a Coast outlet store whilst we were there, which is where my bridesmaid dresses are from.  The dresses are from this seasons collection so I didn’t expect to find them in there, but low and behold they were!

We only managed to get one of the dresses though as they were out of my other bridesmaids sizes.  However, we did pick up there shoes to go with the dresses.  They are beautiful and a total bargain.  I think I will save the pics for another post.

During all of that I snacked on the 2 apples that I bought along with me.  We also had a lovely meal at one of the restaurants:

IMG_2621

We shared a salmon platter which was made up of lots of salmon cooked in different ways.  We also had some rye bread, a side salad, fries and mixed roasted veg too.

Obviously there is always room for dessert…

IMG_2623

Apple tart tatin with vanilla ice cream for me

IMG_2624

Lemon tart with creme fraiche for Alfie

Both deserts tasted amazing!

So although we didn’t get Alfie’s shoes like we had set out too we did make some wedding progress with the bridesmaid outfits.  We are going to be in the Bicester area next week so we are going to stop by and get Alfie’s shoes then.  I am just praying that they still have his size!

Do you like to have keepsakes or something materialistic to remember a special day by or are you just happy with the memories?

I am quite happy with just the memories on most occasions, but I think sometimes it is also nice to have something to touch to remember a day by.

What is the best thing that you have eaten today?

oh Jemma. If I could eat like you for a day, I’m sure I’d be Queen of England :)
and your outfit makes you glow! You look seriously dressed for the town- effort indeed!
I can’t wait to see the bridesmaids dresses. I’m such a sucker for weddings. You’re right about Alfie getting something for himself as well, you’ve got a good man.
I’ve decided not to buy a wedding dress (whenever I get married) but to wear my mother’s. It fits me perfectly and is completely sentimental.

Looks like you had a delicious day of eats! Cant believe how hot and sunny it has been in England at the moment :D loving it!
Also love prets superfood salad..its my fave thing to get when i go there!

I love having proper keepsakes from special days, i still have my prom dress & the fancy dress costume i had made for my 18th birthday party, even though neither of them fit me any more haha! It’s my goal for this summer to fit into the fancy dress costume again by september so i’d better get a move on with my gym sessions ;)
Sounds like you had a lovely day, i love reading about your wedding!

Aww that is so sweet! Love how you call him by his full name when you’re mad. I have a thing about keep sakes and I don’t always think they have to be expensive, I keep tickets when I’ve been on holiday, little snow globes, all sorts of random crap to be honest! But I do enjoy looking back at them. You should buy a wedding keep sake box to put cards, examples of your favours etc in :-)

I LOVE that dress! Looks like such a fun day. Your sense of style is so awesome – the wedding is going to be stunning.

Jess May 30, 2012 at 5:51 PM

What a gorgeous dress! I’ll bet you lit up the town wearing it – you’re going to look stunning no matter what wedding dress you wear.

That salad looks so good – I wonder if I’d get away with the hummus if I picked out the whole wheat wrap…

I guess my race medals are my favourite keepsakes! Plus I sometimes keep old running shoes if they’re from a special race that has meant a lot to me. I am so un-girly it’s ridiculous!

That dress is lovely; you look gorgeous in it and Bicester looks such a beautiful town from that picture.
The best thing I’ve eaten today was my new favourite breakfast, oats in Kara milk with strawberries and blueberries, yum!

eatinglikeahorse May 30, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Oh, and I loved the vlog!

Alyssa (pb and oatmeal) May 30, 2012 at 8:56 PM

All your eats look so good :)

I think it is lovely to have things to remember days by- I like to get little souvenirs from holidays (like magnets or something) as well as taking lots of photos. Then whenever you see it, you remember the lovely time you had.

LilyLipstick May 30, 2012 at 11:17 PM

I love Bicester Village, very envious of your day there. Love the dress your wore and that Pret salad is one of my favourite lunches! x

Happy WIAW! The salmon platter and tart tatin looks delicious! I have a keepsake from my wedding (two years ago tomorrow, in fact!) and it is a silver plated and glass pearl choker I made for myself. I saw a beautiful necklace that was well over my budget, so decided to make one just like it but with more cost-effective materials. It came out to about 1/3 the cost of the original, and because it was handmade, it’s even more valuable! Have fun with your wedding plans! :)

I absolutely thrived on delicious vanilla bean frappuccinos during the summer of 2001!!!… (after my freshman year of college). Seriously, they were my nourishment for every non bulimic meal. And, just the other day, I was thinking fondly about their delicious taste. Unfortunately, Starbucks does not offer a vegan version… but I feel that the butter pecan ‘ice cream’ by SoDelicious will be a fantastic alternative. :p nom nom nom! Gorgeous sailor girl looking dress. You are so sweet! :) x x x

Vanilla Frap?! OMG I’m addicted to Fraps and this one sounds amazing

Ellie May 31, 2012 at 6:51 PM

ahhhhh it’s so exciting to read about your wedding prep journey! :) So glad you got your dress, it’s seriously a relief when you do :D And Alfie sounds a lot like Greg in the sense that he never does anything for himself~

Melissa May 31, 2012 at 9:32 PM

That’s so funny- I did wedding shoe shopping at Bicester Village! I found some flats for the evening that I changed into at night.

Yes, I totally gather keepsakes! I just got back from a 2 week visit home and since my parents are moving, I had to go through all my old stuff to decide what to get rid of. Oh my gosh- I realised how much I keep! :)

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 9:55 PM

I love Bicester Village, so many bargains!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Oh it was a major relief! :D

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 9:56 PM

The salad is amazing isn’t it!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 9:58 PM

Awwww thank you Nicole! Those frappuccinos are so addicting!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Your necklace sounds wonderful and the perfect way to remember your big day!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Exactly! I love little keepsakes like that.

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:00 PM

:D Thank you!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:00 PM

Thanks!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Thank you so much! It was a great day!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:02 PM

That is such a great idea! I so have to do that, thanks for the idea! :D

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:05 PM

Awww thank you Jess! I don’t think it matters if your keepsakes are not viewed as traditional or girly. As long as they hold a special place in your heart that uis all that matters. :D x

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:05 PM

They are super tasty!

Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes May 31, 2012 at 10:06 PM

Your brekkie sounds right up my street, yum!

Nada (One Arab Vegan) May 31, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Sounds like such a lovely day – I love Bicester! For memories, pictures are always great but I like having something tangible, not necessarily materialistic though so for instance I keep all my old train/plain tickets, sometimes receipts or cinema tickets as well. I realise that makes me sound like such a hoarder!

B @ Crags and Veggies June 1, 2012 at 1:28 AM

Love the outfit! Also, love the beautiful vanilla frap from Starbucks! I’m on a kick of iced soymistos right now! You should try one if you haven’t before!
