WIAW: Drenched!

Hi all!  Smile I hope you are all having a great week so far!

Now I could easily be talking about the weather with the title for this post as I know I keep going on about how crappy the weather has been in the UK recently.  It was raining buckets yesterday!

-Alas!  What I am actually referring to is my conscious effort this week to drink more water.  I’m a big water drinker anyway, but I noticed last week that I haven’t been drinking as much as I should and I think that was down to the miserable weather- when the sun is shining I swim in the stuff!  Rather than lots of water I have been substituting it with lots of herbal tea, which I know still contains water but it’s no the same as the pure stuff, to me anyways.

For this weeks WIAW I‘m going to share my eats and goings on from Tuesday as on Monday I was busy running around John Lewis scanning lots of amazing items for our wedding gift list and forgot to take pictures of my meals.

My morning started off really early, dropping Alfie at the train station at 5.30 am so he could make his way back to work.  Once I got home I made a cup of chai tea, ate an apple and pottered about the house and waited for the gym to open.

Once the gym opened it’s doors I did my upper body strength workout with some new moves included and I increased the weights too.  I also did 20 minutes of HIITS on the cross trainer and bike and some ab work.

My stomach was rumbling when I got home, so after a quick shower I made a basic green smoothie out of a banana, soya milk, vanilla stevia and kale and had it with one of my Cherry and Oat Breakfast Muffins, recipe to come!


You can’t beat a classic green smoothie and the muffin was so yummy!

I didn’t really need my usual mid-morning snack as by the time I had finished breakfast it was 9 am!!!  So for lunch I was craving a mega salad, nothing new there then!


It included lettuce leaves, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, grated carrots and vegan cheese.  I made my current favourite dressing of honey, mustard, lime juice, a pinch of salt, apple cider vinegar and mixed herbs to go on top. 


Lunch was good!

Later in the afternoon I snacked on a bowl of chopped doughnut peaches topped with soy yoghurt, almonds and some Caramel Apple Puppy Chow made by the lovely Sarah, its so good! 


It was a pretty standard day to be honest, but a very productive one as far as editing my thesis goes.  By dinner time though I’d had enough so decided to call it a day and cook dinner instead.


Dinner was a basic socca wrap stuffed with lots of peanut butter with a side of stir fried broccoli, red peppers, more kale and mushrooms with some tempeh in soy sauce, mirin, sesame seed oil and lime juice.  I love simple dinners like this, it really hit the spot.

Later on I was still feeling peckish and I always make time for dessert- it’s a must!


I’ve been craving ice cream for a while now and decided to treat myself to some non-dairy vanilla ice cream last week.  Chopped apples, strawberries, non-dairy vanilla ice cream dusted with cinnamon and a fig biscuit which came in Sarah’s awesome package, was a very tasty dessert. 

A few extra scoops of ice cream and Caramel Apple Puppy Chow may have made it’s way passed my lips at some put later that evening too. Open-mouthed smile

When I’m at home I always have a 2 litre bottle of filtered water in the fridge which I take out when I set up my “office” on the dining table to start work.  I pour it in to a glass as and when I need it and make sure that I drink the whole 2 litre bottle.  So with all that water and the amount of herbal tea I drink normally I think it’s easy to say that I’m well hydrated.  It’s been difficult to drink so much pure water with the weather being so grey and I have preferred my tea, especially last week, but I am definitely back to my normal water drinking levels now.

I need to drink a lot of water at work, otherwise my voice stops working. BUt sometimes I am just so busy that I get to lunch time or the end of the day and realise I have only had a few sips! I take my water bottle with me and try to make sure I re-fill it at lunch time so that I know I have had enough. But I think I drink enough :)
And yes I agree that title could have been about the weather- I was thinking you had been out on a run in the rain!

Urgh, not only to the weather but to getting up early enough to get to the station at 5.30am!!
I drink loads and loads of fluid but not all pure water so I should make more of an effort… your lunch looks fab and I’m intrigued by the puppy chow!

Looks like a yummy day of food, I haven’t had a green smoothie in far too long! I do try to drink a lot of water and in the week its quite easy as I drink it at my desk throughout the day but when I’m not in my usual routine it is harder to remember to drink enough. x

I love how you eat such a huge variety of foods and PB with socca; genius!
As I was reading your post I just become conscious and scoffed down a glass haha.
I always get thirsty so I am always sipping on it during the day but I could defiantly drink more than what I do. Definitely in the hotter months I drink more water as I sweat it out more.

Wow, your lunch looks fantastic. You always eat so wonderfully – its so inspiring. I really don’t drink enough water – I know its an issue as I live in Australia and in Queensland (the hottest state – we are the closest to the Equator). I have actually fainted before from dehydration – and I had donated blood – and I ended up with concussion from hitting the sidewalk. So after that I have made more of a conscious effort – I think it’s a good thing to make an effort – it means you really are trying.

I have to be very careful with hydration because unless I make myself I always drink far too little, particularly with the amount of water I lose through sweat every day (TMI?) When the weather was actually decent I was down 5-6lbs after every run simply through loss of fluid, and 3-4 on an average day. No wonder I kept having dizzy spells until I started using Zeros in my water to encourage me to drink more! I live on coffee as well which isn’t great, so I have to drink even more to compensate for that.

Peanut butter-stuffed socca sounds like heaven on a plate.

That salad and your dessert look amazing (insert drooling!).

I drink water all day long, no matter the seasons. However, I do prefer warm water over ice cold water.. even in the summer (weird i know).

It was raining like crazy here too yesterday. In fact, it’s still raining today. Oh well – my yard needs it! :) Looking forward to the muffin recipe.

I really have to make an effort to drink ANY water, I honestly don’t get thirsty and when I drink, I opt for caffiene. I do now tote a litre of water with me everywhere, I have to drink it if I don’t want to carry it all day ;)

I drink water like a crazy person, I think I probably have more than 12 glasses once you factor in tea as well. I keep a glass on my desk at work at all times, does the trick for me! That puppy chow sounds amazing!

I’m totally obsessed with drinking water, I probably drink 3-4 litres a day, and always have a glass or flask with me. I never go out without a bottle of the stuff with me either! I don’t understand people who don’t drink water, or say they don’t like water, crazy?! The weather really doesn’t bother me, rain or shine, I make sure to stay super hydrated! I’ve never tried those donut peaches, haven’t seen them anywhere over here.

I always try to drink 2 ltrs but with all the juice water and fruit teas I am constantly going to the loo which is annoying! ha ha x

I drink water after I get dehydrated. Aka. Too late :) That socca wrap sounds good. Did you make it from bean flour?

Same here, I love my water and always carry a bottle with me- my bag is always so heavy!

When I add up the tea I drink as well as the glasses of water it gets to a crazy amount! The puppy chow is addictive!

Your food looks delicious – love the mega salad! I also really want some of your dairy-free ice cream, it looks so good :-)

A couple of months ago I started making a really conscious effort to drink a lot more water and since doing this I’ve found that I actually get thirsty a lot quicker than before! Now I find it really easy to drink lots of water throughout the day which is great. I have a litre bottle of water which I carry with me everywhere, it’s brilliant because it’s small enough to take out easily enough and I only have to refill it twice to have my water for the day!
