{WIAW} The sights and the sounds

in EATS!, WIAW

…of Oxford! On Monday I thought I would use my day off to buy some hair accessories for my cute and angelic flower girls and head into Oxford to explore the city.

I haven’t been in a city for 2 weeks.  It has either been the motorway or the village for me so the hustle and bustle of the city actually felt a little strange.  I’ve visited Oxford before and it’s such a beautiful and cultural place, full of old building and history.

Oh and it’s own Sweaty Betty!

I could have strolled around all day, especially around the amazing covered market where they sell fresh dates and squash in abundance, plus some fab eateries.  There is an amazing cheese counter which caught my eye too and lots of quirky gift and clothe shops.

My food was pretty awesome on Monday too, which I would like to share with you for this weeks WIAW.

Peas and Crayons

Thank you Jen for hosting another amazing food party.  I look forward to WIAW every week for the heavenly food porn and inspiration.  Added to that I just love seeing what everyone is eating day to day.

When I woke up I was in the mood for some comforting oats.  I have been on a bit of a warm breakfast kick recently and oats have been a staple.  I made my favourite peach oats with almond milk and vanilla extract and stirred in the last of my Greek yoghurt.  The yoghurt made this so creamy, yummers!

Since I was having a bit of a “ME” day I thought that I would treat myself to an Marks and Spencer’s lunch.  Luckily I went in just at the right time as they had started to reduce some of their salads…score!

IMG_4279

I had one of my favourite wholefood salads and a huge container of fruit.  There was so much reduced stuff on offer that I picked up some of the smaller salad pots for lunches for work.

On my travels I found this quirky little café which have an amazing selection of cakes. I couldn’t resist a chai soy latte and a polenta cake with almonds and cranberries.

This polenta cake was insane, so delicious!  I think I am definitely going to have a go at making my own version.

When I finally got home I had a lovely mug of gingerbread tea in my new mug with an apple and a few almonds.

I’m still working out from home and decided to do a quick but challenging all of body strength routine using my own body weight.  At the moment working out from home seems to be working well with my current schedule.  Commuting to work makes it very difficult to get to the gym.

Later for dinner I whipped up a huge veggie red Thai curry with a mix of mushrooms, broccoli, squash, red peppers, baked tofu and spring onions, heaven!

I was suffering from some major midnight snack cravings so fixed a snack plate of chopped fix and what I like to call a chocolate version of crack- Lindt caramel with sea salt dark chocolate.  I love, love, love this chocolate! I went back for a few extra squares too, just couldn’t help myself. =)

What new sights and sounds have you been taking in lately?

Have you been to Oxford before?

It must be so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life… I’ve always lived in a somewhat large city, but to be honest, I prefer the peace and quiet of country living. And I couldn’t help but think that mug is perfect for you, given the name of your blog :)

I hope you do remake that cake and post it on here! Looks good… For some reason sweets from the bakery almost always taste better than homemade. Ha. Maybe because they are just more expensive? :D

What a lovely Monday! I love finding little coffee shops, sounds perfect. I think I must have to try this chocolate soon, everyone is talking about it!

  • Miss Polkadot

Oxford sounds and looks like a great place to be. I love old buildings as they have much more of a character than new ones. Those in the first picture are what I have in mind when thinking of “typicially” English building. Such a lot of charme in them.

    Your oats look delish!

Happy WIAW! What beautiful figs! Your red Thai curry looks great. And the polenta cake looks very intersting. :-)

Well I went to Oxford last weekend, and the plan was to have lunch there, but that didn’t happen! I went there a few years ago and I did like it. That gingerbread tea is so yummy! I think it was you that sent it to me last year for secret santa- I can’t wait for my i-herb order to arrive :)

I’ve only been to Oxford once when I was very young so I don’t really remember it. It looks lovely though and I would like to visit. Cambridge has it’s own Sweaty Betty as well and I’m powerless when I walk in. I think it has it’s own running and yoga club too if that’s convenient for you.

I’ve never been to oxford, I’d really like to visit one day though. I love peaches in oats!
