Healthy living isn’t just about eating well and exercise, it’s also about how it makes us feel. My whole approach to healthy living in 2015 is embracing the ‘mind, body and soul‘ approach to be wholly healthy. One of my main aims is to get my glow back after pregnancy and nourishing and taking care of my body is getting me back on track. Below are some of my favourite healthy living tips that are helping me to ‘get the glow’ and feel awesome.
Eat more dark leafy greens
It goes without saying really that eating more fruit and vegetables is good for you, but, in particular, dark leafy greens. They are packed with vital vitamins and minerals that help nourish your body from the inside and allowing it to glow on the outside. So add kale, spinach and spring greens to your weekly grocery shop and load up your plates.
There is nothing like that post-workout high due to the bodies natural happy pill serotonin being released during exercise. On days when you don’t feel like working out try to motivate yourself and get moving because you’ll feel great afterwards. Serotonin works with a group of endorphins released in the brain to promote a general feeling of happiness and makes your workout more pleasurable.
As difficult as it sounds, drinking 2 litres of water a day works wonders for your health and your skin. It helps to flush out all of those nasty toxins that can make our skin look tired and instead make it look plump and glowing. If water isn’t your favourite tipple, try adding slices of citrus fruits to your glass to give it more flavour and if you struggle to get your daily quota, keeping a Fill&Go bottle beside you will help you stay accountable.
Healthy fats are good for you
Avocados are packed full of antioxidants which help to fight nasty skin-damaging free radicals and not forgetting those healthy fats, which help to plump up the skin. Treat yourself to a pampering session and try mashing up an avocado and using it as a face mask, your face will be forever thankful and left silky soft and smooth. I recently wrote a post on how full fats are good for you, which you can read here.
Smile often and shine
There is a saying that ‘laughter is the best medicine,’ and although it’s not strictly a healthy living tip, it will make you look good and feel awesome. We all feel better after a good laugh and generally exude happiness. A more positive outlook can work wonders on how we approach different things in our lives even to how we take care of ourselves. After looking after your body so well from the inside, you have every right to smile about it and shine as a result.
What would your number one healthy living tip be to help get that glow?
