With autumn officially here and winter just around the corner, the dark nights are drawing in and the mornings are becoming much colder. Now that we’re embracing chunky knits, drinking tea by the bucket load and turning the central heating on the inevitable happens; the sniffly noses, sore throats, and full blown colds start to make an unwanted appearance.
There always seems to be something going around at this time of year and catching a dose of the latest lurgy is horrible and the thought of catching another cold doesn’t bear thinking about! With a little boy at nursery with other children who are constantly exploring and sticking their fingers in who knows what, the seasonal germs seem to go around continuously. Today I’m sharing some really useful ideas on how to keep the lurgy away and deal with it the best you can this season.
When you come down with a cold or flu, it often means soaring temperatures which is why it’s important to stay hydrated in the winter. Sipping water throughout the day sounds like a big ask, but it 2 litres is the recommended is the recommended daily quota that we should al be aiming for. Try mixing it up with apple slices, lemon or limes to make it a bit more enticing!
BOOST YOUR FIBRE INTAKE
Foods that are high in fibre like oats are also high in antioxidant and anti-microbial properties. This helps to give the immune system a boost to help it fight off nasty cold causing germs that are often circulating at this time of year.
TRY TO STAY ACTIVE
Exercise isn’t just a way to stay fit or aid weight loss, it also acts as an effective way of boosting your immune system to help prevent illnesses. When you workout your blood pumps around your body at a faster rate helping our immune cells to circulate around the body to fight off any infections or viruses. Of course, the last thing that you want to be doing when your ill is exercise, so if you’re not feeling up to it, don’t worry. The last thing you want to do when you’re ill is hit the gym, so take it easy and forget about it if you’re really not up to it.
HYGIENE & CLEANLINESS NEXT TO GODLINESS
Keeping anti-bacterial wipes and gel close by to wipe down door handles and telephones is an excellent way to help lessen the spread of germs. The gel is handy to keep in your bag while you’re out and about. It’s a great time to prepare your immune system and Alive! are giving away 6 x 3 month’s supply of Immune Support packs.
