This week has been all about the sunshine, although I’ve not enjoyed the humidity so much. Turning the oven on has been a bit of an issue in this heat. Rather than cook something in a stuffy kitchen, we took the opportunity to get the BBQ going at the weekend. These lamb leg steaks in a herb marinade turned up our usual BBQ fodder up a notch and went perfectly with a cheeky glass of wine.
Don’t they look fancy? Well, actually they are super simple to make with only four ingredients that you mix together and marinade the lamb leg steaks in for 15-20 minutes – the BBQ does all the hard work. We served our lamb with some fruity couscous, salad, tomatoes on the vine and new baby potatoes. It was quite a treat on a balmy summer’s evening.

Lamb steaks can make British BBQs much more impressive as they are so delicious and not something you see at every BBQ. They’re extremely versatile and you can cook the whole steak on the BBQ or use them to make kebabs. Also, they taste delicious on their own and take on flavours well, so you only need to use a few ingredients, making them great for the BBQ when less preparation is preferred.
Reinvent your summer BBQ's with these delicious lamb leg steaks in a simple herb marinade.
- 2 150g lean boneless lamb leg steaks
- 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1-2 tbsp freshly chopped rosemary or thyme
- 1 tbsp good balsamic vinegar
- 2 tsp rapeseed or olive oil
- Salt and freshly milled black pepper
Place the steak in a non-metallic dish. Mix together the marinade ingredients and pour over the steaks. Cover and marinate in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
Cook the steaks on a prepared barbecue or preheated moderate grill for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until any meat juices run clear. Transfer the steaks to a warm plate and leave to rest for a few minutes.
Serve with a fresh cherry and bean salad with mixed beans, cherries, red onions, baby spinach leaves and a light dressing or your favourite sides.

I was concerned that cooking the lamb on the BBQ would make them dry out, but we found these lamb steaks to be so juicy and delicious. They went so well with the simple salad and other sides that I had served up alongside them. It was the perfect meal to end a wonderful sunny weekend.
