My name is Jemma and I’m addicted to figs! Tis’ the season for figs my friends and I’ve eaten them like a crazy woman for the past couple of weeks. My addiction wasn’t helped by the fact that they have been on a promotional offer in the supermarket.
Figs are such a pretty fruit, very deceptive in their appearance because they don’t look very attractive on the outside, but once you cut them open their pretty pink flesh brightens up any dull plate. I’ve thrown them on top of my yoghurt messes, porridge oats and salads too. I think their subtle sweet flavour lends itself well to any dish, savoury or sweet.
I used mozzarella cheese because I love the creaminess of this particular cheese with the honey on the caramelised warm fruit, but I think goat’s cheese and feta cheese would also be a great addition too. Personally I prefer my warm fruit with a bit of bite which is why I only cooked them for 5 minutes so that they were just tender. Please cook them for longer if you prefer your fruit to be much softer.
Adding fruit and nuts to a salad is one of my favourite ways to eat them. The lovely warm fruit in this would be wonderful on a cold autumnal day, especially if you struggle to eat salads in the colder months. I’m hoping that figs stick around for the foreseeable future because I’m hooked for sure. Happy eating!

Warm Fig and Nectarine SaladCourse: Uncategorized
A wonderfully easy seasonal warm salad recipe featuring figs and nectarines.
1 tbsp honey
handful of walnuts
mozzarella cheese (or choose your favourite soft cheese)
mixed salad leaves
- Slice the figs and nectarine and cook on the hob in some coconut oil and honey for roughly 5 minutes or until tender.
- Next assemble the salad using the mixed leaves and top with the warmed fruit and sprinkle over the walnuts and cheese. Eat and devour!
