Buying a house is one thing, but actually making it a home is another. We bought our first house 6 months ago and we’re still so excited by the fact that we finally have a place to call our own after renting for 10 years. We’re now at the stage where we are ready to put our mark on the bare white walls and inject some of our own personality into our brand new home.
We live in the middle of nowhere in a village, there are some quaint traditional houses in the village, but it’s very up and coming and has been developed a fair bit. We adore it here and although we love village life, our taste in interior design is far from traditional. Minimalism is something that both Alfie and I are really into as we hate clutter, which can be difficult when you have a toddler who likes to empty their toy box all over the living floor. Scandi designers have won over our hearts and have been a focus for us when trying to pick things for our home.
You may have heard of the Danish concept of hyyge, it’s massive and a way of living that I’m very on board with. Over the past few weeks, I’ve made some autumn updates to our home to bring in some of that hygge atmosphere. We had some building work done over the summer to build a fake wall (more on that soon) to house the tv and a new fireplace. It was designed with two recesses either side, perfect for tinkering about and filling it with pretty items.
This is my favourite corner in the living room, it’s right by the fire and looks out of the large bay window at the front. I call it my reading nook, and I ‘ve bought a couple of things to make it cosier. Candles are a must, we light one nearly every evening in the colder months, so I was quite taken with the Obi Glass Lantern, it’s so simple but super stylish. I’ve been thinking about putting some fairy lights in it. I’ve got a thing for elephants and instantly fell in love with this Royal Elephant Figurine to add some drama and height. Of course, every good reading corner needs a lamp and I’d had my eye on something like this Talisman Table Lamp for some time and it sits perfectly with our Scandi mustard coloured chairs.
What autumn updates have you been making to your home?
