Asian lamb lettuce wraps are a fantastic lighter way to get your fill of those wonderful flavours that you might be familiar with from your weekend takeaway. They’re made with lamb mince which means that they’re ready in less than 30 minutes, which makes them a super speedy dinner option or they would make a fantastic starter to any Asian style banquets that you may be planning.
Asian lamb lettuce wraps are a fantastic lighter way to get your fill of those wonderful flavours that you might be familiar with from your weekend takeaway.
- 500g Lamb mince (I used 10% fat lamb mince)
- 6 chestnut mushrooms sliced
- 1 carrot diced
- 1 red chilli sliced
- 1 inch fresh ginger grated
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp clear honey
- 2 tsp Chinese 5 spice
- 2 spring onions sliced
- 2 little gem lettuces
- 2 tbsp oil of your choice to cook with
- peanuts and more sliced chilli to garnish (optional)
Heat a large frying pan or wok and add the oil. When warm, begin to cook the lamb mince with the mushrooms and diced carrot for a few minutes.
Next, add the chilli, garlic, and ginger and cook for a further 5 minutes. Stir in the soy sauce, honey, and Chinese 5 spice. Cook until the lamb mince is completely cooked through.
Before serving stir through the sliced spring onions. Separate the little gem lettuce leaves and place the cooked lamb mince inside. Garnish with peanuts and more sliced chilli if preferred.
Asian food is one of my favourite cuisines, there is just so much variety and so many interesting ways that you can cook the simplest of ingredients. Lettuce wraps are a lovely way to incorporate more vegetables into a meal and can masquerade as fajita wraps, burger buns or this case the perfect spoon for serving up lamb mince. I used to order them from the local takeaway as my choice of a starter before dicing into my chow mein, but I never knew how easy they were to make yourself. Seriously, had I known then what I know now I would have made them each and every time.
Lamb mince often has a bad reputation for being fatty, however, the supermarkets often now sell a selection with different fat contents. I bought one with that contained 10% fat as I still didn’t want the meat to be overloaded with fat and oil, but a little bit of fat does add lots of flavour – it’s so nice that the option is there now. This is why I’ve teamed up with Tasty Easy Lamb to show you how versatile and healthy lamb can be as part of a balanced lifestyle. It doesn’t have to be expensive either or only saved for your Sunday roast dinners, it can be the perfect weeknight dinner ingredient.
We really love these wraps, they’re full of the classic Asian flavours with the mix of soy, ginger, chilli, garlic, 5-spice and have that sweet and salty flavour thing going on.
